ANIMATION WORKSHOP FACILITATED BY TRIGGERFISH

Established in 1996, Triggerfish is a Cape Town-based film and entertainment company. The studio has produced two of the top five highest-grossing South African feature films of all time: Adventures in Zambezia (2012) and Khumba (2013), and is currently producing a new feature film, Seal Team, and Netflix’s first African animated TV series, Mama K’s Team 4.

In collaboration with Magic Light Pictures, Triggerfish has also animated four multi-award-winning BBC Christmas adaptations: Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man (2015), The Highway Rat (2017), and Zog (2018), as well as the Oscar-nominated Revolting Rhymes (2016), based on the Roald Dahl classic.

The Triggerfish strives to be a centre of excellence for African animation, providing practical, job-focused training in future-oriented skills, building on the newest research around animation, and incorporating the transference of Triggerfish culture that is steeped in over 2 decades of animation leadership on the continent.

Our vision is to combine technology and traditional pedagogy to create a program that has maximum impact, in order to build a sustainable animation ecosystem where the gap between raw talent and the market is closed. We cooperate with a large number of industry experts and networks as well as other training institutions to facilitate knowledge-sharing in order to stimulate the animation industry as a whole. The staff consists of experienced lecturers who are also leading animation practitioners driving the animation industry forward globally.

The Triggerfish Academy is currently working with several stakeholders on the design, development and delivery of a pan-African digital learning platform introducing African Youth to a career in animation.

Workshop facilitators

Aibe is a digital frontrunner. He is a 3D Animator, Web and Learning Platform Developer. He worked for over 9 years in the animation industry and helped to animate two Triggerfish Animation Studios feature films. Besides animation, he is passionate about coding, app development.
